Robert Rauschenberg was a hero of mine. He and his work gave me a new understanding of what art can be an who can be an artist. I got to met Robert once. I was introduced to him by a mutual friend. Robert had that signature smile you see in every photo of him. He was very encouraging to me. He told me to just make art and everything will work its self out.
Robert had a stroke several years ago that made it hard for him to walk, talk and use his hands. Yet, he made art up until the very end.
